Transforming Pokemon Cards Into Hand-Painted Works Of Art

Transforming Pokemon Cards Into Hand-Painted Works Of Art

Meet the artist who’s painting outside the box. Literally! Micah Yates, known as Lunumbra online, has found success expanding the artworks of Pokémon cards past their borders.

With acute attention to detail and a carefully selected colour palette, the paintings blend effortlessly with the original card’s artwork making it almost impossible to tell they’ve been painted at all.

Lunumbra shows the exact process she goes through to create some of the paintings on her Instagram and YouTube channel as well as also occasionally live-streaming painting them on Twitch.

Here’s just a brief outline of how she creates the phenomenal paintings:

First the background is primed and an outline is sketched out.

Lunumbra sells her one-of-a-kind card alteration paintings online, with some selling for upwards of $300.

The highly popular Pokémon trading cards have been in circulation since 1999 and Lunumbra has been hand-painting over them since 2014. Most of the cards she paints over are donated.
