Plant a tree with an Ohh Deer order! 🌱
OK, so you won’t technically be planting a tree but we’ll plant one for you on your behalf!
- So, how is this possible?
You might be wondering what this process might look like and it’s quite simple, really. When a customer with an Ohh Deer account purchases a 3 for 2 on cards, a Mangrove tree will be planted in Africa via Eden Reforestation Projects - a truly amazing nonprofit NGO (non-governmental organisation) that works in developing countries to rebuild natural landscapes destroyed by deforestation.
Eden reduces extreme poverty and restores healthy forests by employing local villagers to plant millions of trees every year. They partner with villages committed to restoring their forest, and then hire and train locals to plant new trees. This project provides locals with consistent income.

- How can I plant a tree?
You will need to have created and verified a free Ohh Deer account, then just use our 3 for 2 discount. Every time you make a purchase using the 3 for 2 offer, a tree will automatically be planted on your behalf. The best part is, you will be sent a personal timeline where you can see updates on your tree. It’s like you’ve adopted your own little tree baby, how sweet!
- Why plant a tree?
We’re constantly looking for ways in which we can positively impact the environment and that’s exactly why we’ve added this feature to our site! We believe that each and every one of us is responsible for looking after our planet and we actively put the environment first.
- Why mangrove trees?
A single mangrove tree can remove over 300 kg of CO2 from the atmosphere, assuming it grows for 25 years. That is roughly 12 kg of CO2 per year. Mangrove forests are essential ecosystems whose dense roots serve as an anchor for the soil and coastline, preventing erosion and creating a barrier between harsh ocean systems and land.
- Selling Sustainably-Sourced Cards
All of our paper based products are sourced from sustainable, well-maintained forests, or recycled materials. The paper for our greetings cards is sourced locally, therefore reducing the potential carbon emissions required to import the paper by 117,666kg of Co2 per year. The cards are lithographically printed which results in fewer emissions and less waste. We use vegetable inks which are eco friendly and VOC free and our production house is one of the leading ethical companies in the UK, recycling all of their old pallets and food waste and using it to heat their eco hub.
- We Use Plastic-Free Greeting Card Packaging
All our cards are completely plastic-free. Back in 2019, we were the first card publisher to ditch cellophane and, in September 2021, we made the decision to no longer produce cards with a clasped seal, as we believe these to be unnecessary and ultimately waste producing. (You may receive some cards with the clasp while we transition and clear through older stock.)
Following customer feedback, we decided to continue to wrap our Pin and Patch Card ranges to prevent damage and theft. Therefore, these are packaged in a biodegradable or compostable wrap which is Vincotte Certified, meaning they will disintegrate within 6 months into Co2, water and humus - a soil nutrient when industrially composted.
- Recycled Gift-wrap
All our envelopes are made from sustainable and/or recycled materials. Our manufacturers are audited and hold all the correct accreditations. They recycle all paper-based material waste every day, including all envelope paper and cardboard, which is then used by a recycling partner to manufacture new recycled paper-based products, such as our Fleck Kraft envelopes.
- Reduced Use of Foil
We never use more than 30% foil elements on our products to ensure they are 100% recyclable.
- No Glitter, Little Flitter
We don’t like to add glitter elements to our designs (we feel we are snazzy enough). However, where we do, we only use biodegradable glitter products. All our gift wrap is made from 100% recycled paper and unlike most gift wrap, it can be recycled again due to the paper and finishes we use.
This feature is now live, so if you're interested in both saving the environment and, of course, some pennies - shop greeting cards here!
