GREEN FRIDAY AT OHH DEER - HELP US PLANT 10,000 TREES

We're ditching Black for Green at Ohh Deer this year.

In the week leading to Black Friday and Cyber Monday (20th - 26th November), we'll be offering our customers incredible Flash Offers every single day. What's more, each purchase over £5 will help us plant mangrove trees via Eden Reforestation Projects.

How will this week work?

Our aim is to plant 10,000 mangrove trees at the end of the week and we will start our pledge by planting 2023 trees with the help of our partners.

Eden Reforestation Projects is a truly amazing nonprofit NGO (non-governmental organisation) that works in developing countries to rebuild natural landscapes destroyed by deforestation.

Eden reduces extreme poverty and restores healthy forests by employing local villagers to plant millions of trees every year. They partner with villages committed to restoring their forest, and then hire and train locals to plant new trees. The reforestation provides the villagers with consistent income that helps them provide for their families. You can find out more about their work here. We work with this fantastic organisation through our partner Verdn, which facilitates and tracks the impact of the trees planted.

Every time you place an order over £5, we'll plant a tree. For orders over £10, we'll plant 3 trees and orders over £20 will plant a whopping 10 trees!

Every day we will be adding new Flash Deals to the site, which will expire in 48 hours. You can sign up for our newsletter here to be the first to hear about each deal and other exclusive offers.

Why are we planting trees?

We're constantly looking for ways in which we can positively impact the environment. With many shoppers waiting for Black Friday to purchase their Christmas gifts, cards and other essentials, we saw this as the perfect opportunity to give back to the planet. That's why we swapped Black Friday for Green Friday.

Why mangrove trees?

With our aim of 10,000 trees, we'd be helping to clear 120tonnes (120,000Kg) of CO2 every year, this equates to 3 million kilos of CO2 over 25 years.
Mangrove forests are essential ecosystems whose dense roots serve as an anchor for the soil and coastline, preventing erosion and creating a barrier between harsh ocean systems and land. They store four times as much carbon as even tropical rainforests, making them an important tool to mitigate climate change.

What else is Ohh Deer doing?

Good question. Outside of Green Friday, when a customer purchases 3 for 2 on greeting cards, we will plant a tree on their behalf with the help of our partners. This feature runs all year.

All of our greeting cards are completely plastic-free and made exclusively from sustainably sourced materials. We were the first card publisher to ditch cellophane back in 2019, and in September 2021, we made the decision to no longer produce cards with a clasped seal (the replacement to cellophane) as we believed these to be unnecessary and ultimately waste-producing. Our manufacturers are audited and hold all the correct accreditations.

All our gift wrap is made from 100% recycled paper and unlike most gift wrap, it can be recycled again due to the paper and finishes we use. We never use more than 30% foil elements on our products to ensure they are 100% recyclable. We don’t like to add glitter elements to our designs (we feel like they're snazzy enough). However, where we do, we only use biodegradable glitter products.
