This year’s Papergang Christmas box is ‘Winter Woodland’ themed and who better to partner with than Papio Press, we think they’ve done an amazing job with the initial reaction being quite overwhelming to say the least. Here’s a sneak peak into our interview with Zanna and Harry, the creative minds behind Papio Press.
Hi Harry and Zanna, thanks so much for collaborating with us this month! Could you tell us a little bit about your background?
Hello! We met studying illustration at the University of Gloucestershire, and started our business Papio Press during our second year. We’ve grown so much together as illustrators since we graduated five years ago, we’ve done a number of published books together, expanded our small business, and now we’re focusing on launching into separate freelance careers alongside running Papio Press together.
What’s your favourite thing from this month’s box?
We’re so happy with all of it, but the notebook is really exciting for us. Because Papio Press is a small business we’ve never been able to customise our products to that sort of level. We absolutely love stationery, and I’m a bit obsessed with gold foiling.
And as a slight disclaimer, we understand you didn’t design this box in the winter (gasp!). Is it difficult to create things like this under those kind of circumstances, and how did you go about getting your inspiration for it?
Not at all! I don’t know what it is about my style but I seem to get a lot of winter-themed commissions so even when it’s summer my head is full of snow and reindeer etc. I think one of the most inspiring things about illustration is the ability to create a world that’s different from the one you’re currently living in. For me, it makes it more exciting to go to different seasons and places for every piece and try set the scene and tell the story.
