10 Years of Thinking Of You Week: The Power of Card Sending

Picture this. It's 2014, Apple have just launched the iPhone 6, the word 'selfie' has gained mass popularity and the Germany won the FIFA World Cup 2014, hosted in Brazil. More importantly though, 'Thinking of You Week' was launched by the Greeting Card Association (GCA).

We can't believe it's been a decade already.

So, what is 'Thinking of You Week'?

Thinking of You Week is a special week that harnesses the emotional power of greeting cards to create a wave of love, caring and happiness.

To get involved, it's as easy as sending cards during the week. You can also organise your own card sending or card making event too to really bring people together and share the celebrations.

Why is it important?

Sending a card isn’t just about a cute piece of paper - it can work wonders for mental wellbeing. For the recipient, it’s an instant mood booster, making them feel more connected and less alone. Just knowing someone took the time to pick out a card can be a game-changer. It’s like saying, "Hey, you’re important to me," in a thoughtful and tangible way.

Plus, it can make them feel truly valued and appreciated, especially when it comes to anniversaries or birthdays. A card tells them loud and clear, "You haven’t been forgotten!" Whether it's a sympathy card offering comfort, a get-well card sparking hope, or a fun birthday card bringing laughter, the simple act of sending one spreads joy, love, and positivity in ways that texts just can’t compete with.

In fact, research has found that a greeting card packs way more emotional punch than a digital message or email. Think about it - when you spot a brightly coloured envelope among the usual boring stack of bills and statements, your heart does a little happy dance. It’s that instant hit of excitement and curiosity. Even when you know it’s your birthday and cards are on the way, you still can't wait to rip open the envelope and see what’s inside! And some cards? They’re so lovely or thoughtful that they feel like a gift in themselves.

Who do I send one to?

You could give one to anybody, that's what's so lovely about it! A special friend who's always been there for you, a neighbour that's helped you out recently, even your local Postman.

If you're struggling for ideas, check out this blog post we created about who you could send one to and what to write in one.
